Sal's kitchen- Pull-apart pizza bread*

Okay so I've been a naughty and very disorganised student and I've had no time to blog, I'm sorry, I hope this offering of awesome pizza bread makes up for it. Just look at how amazing it looks!

I was sent Sal's 'Cheaper than chips' cookbook a while back now and it was only about two weeks ago that I finally managed to sit down and actually make something. The recipe I made was inspired by Sal's as hers called for a lot of tomato, which I cant eat.

So to make mine you will need

1 large unsliced loaf of bread ie a tiger loaf
2/3 cloves of garlic
3 tablespoons of butter
1 pack of bacon lardons
3 balls of mozzarella

Now this is dead easy to do, just slice the loaf length ways and then across but whatever you do, do not cut all the way through, you want this to stay in one piece! Next cook the bacon in a frying pan, once they are cooked set them to one side and in the same pan, melt the butter over a low heat and add the chopped garlic cloves, let the butter infuse for a couple of minuets and then you are ready to assemble!

All you need to do here is brush the loaf with the garlic butter, get right in the cuts you made, then stuff it with the bacon lardons and rip up the mozzarella then it's ready to go.

Stick it all in the oven at 180/200 degrees for about 20mins or until the cheese is lovely and gooey. If the bread starts to go a little too brown cover it with tin foil.

Hopefully you will end up with something like this...

With Sal's recipe, the pizza bit comes in with a tomato sauce for dipping but we skipped that as I can't eat tomatoes. Her other recipes offer up cheap and healthy recipes which even novice cooks should be able to manage, there are even hints and tips on how to use up those pesky left overs.

You can download Sal's book here

Have you cooked anything awesome recently? Let me know and I might give it a go!

Keep it Scrimpy,
Laura.

    1. It was so good! Like I said I went a little OTT on the garlic butter and it made it a little greasy but greasy garlic carbs were just what I needed!

  2. This looks so tasty! May have to give it a go for a winter snack for me and my flatmates. I also like to make pizza using pitta breads, just put the toppings on and stick them in the oven for 10 minutes.
